Please can you stay or allow another woman to come” I was surprised at her, her husband spoke words stating "Doctor, she did not want any man to see her, as no one has seen her face during her lifetime except her father, brother and uncles (her Mahrams). I laughed and told him in amazement, “I do not think there is a man in America who has not seen me yet!” Working over my shifted hours I agreed to stay and carry out their request. On the following day, I came to check on her after giving birth, and I advised her that many of the women in America are subjected to internal infections and puerperal fever due to the continuation of the sexual intercourse in the post-natal period. According to the latest medical researches, It is a necessity to refrain from this relationship for at least 40 days, and it is essential for proper nutrition and to avoid physical effort during those days. Mother of the newborn responded happily saying Doctor I am already aware of this, my religion Islam has forbidden men to have sexual intercourse with a postpartum woman for 40 days until she becomes ritually pure, and during these days she is exempt from fasting and prayer. When I listened to her words, I was astonished! Our years of hard experiments and researches demonstrated what is in the teachings of Islam!! A Pediatrician came to check on the baby and told the mother, “It is better for the baby to sleep on his right side to regulate his heartbeats.” The father said, “We do so according to the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH).” I was astounded by his response…! We invested a great deal of our life in this science while they knew it through their religion. Therefore, I decided to acquaint myself with that religion. I took a vacation for a month and went to another city in which there was a large Islamic center. I read and understood the meaning and sayings of the Holy Qur´an and spent most of my time in asking and inquiring and in meeting Arab and American Muslims. Only after several months All my questions and inquisitions came to an end...And finally my heart was content and I embraced Islam - Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah)... For showing me light and bringing me to the path of Islam.
